How long have you had your horse? My current show horse is a 4 year old, grey overo gelding. He is registered through the APHA, PtHA, and NSBA. His registered name is “Watch Him Go” and his barn name is “Maverick”. Along with those two names, he also has several other nicknames that he goes by. My family and I have had Maverick ever since he was a baby colt. He was born and raised on our family farm. His mother is actually a solid paint bred mare that I used to show when I was younger and we still have her on the farm today as a broodmare. Even at such a young age, Maverick has been named Pinto Horse of the Year, 1x Pinto World Champion, and 2x Color Breed Congress Champion. He also seems to excel more in the English classes as he is nearly 17 hands now. Maverick is filled with a huge person- ality and loves his job of being a show horse!

What classes do you like to show in? As an exhibitor, I like to show my horses in the all around events (halter, showmanship, western pleasure, hunter under saddle, horsemanship, equitation, and discipline rail). For the past three years, I have also competed and enjoyed showing in yearling lounge line. I tend to like to show in the English classes more than the Western classes. I would have to say that my favorite class to show in is Ideal Pinto.

This will be your first year as an amateur, what are you looking forward to most? This year, I will be moving up one more level to compete as an amatuer in the show ring. I am looking forward to the new challenges and tougher competition that I will have to face. Un- fortunately, the beginning of the show season has not gone as planned due to the COVID-19 pan- demic. I am anxiously waiting for horse shows to begin again so that I can finally compete against the other amateurs.

What’s your favorite thing about Iowa Pinto? My favorite thing about Iowa Pinto is getting the opportunity to show in a fun atmosphere and welcoming environment! Everyone at the shows are very friendly and willing to lend an ex- tra hand if you are needing help with something. Every year I look forward to attending all of the Iowa Pinto shows and being able to show my horse against other members.

What are some things you want to try later on down the road? As I continue to learn and expand my knowledge about horses, there are a couple of things that I am wanting to try out to see if I like it or not. Coming from a family that has a history in driving horses, I have always thought about competing in the pleasure driving classes at the Pinto shows. Stay tuned for Maverick’s and I debut in this event in the upcoming years.

My favorite things about the Iowa pinto shows were that they went smoothly and had well thought out show bills (all breed and novice classes are really nice to have!). The people were all really nice and friendly and of course the Kirk- wood facilities are topnotch!

My horse is a 10 year old mare named VR Timeless Gem. She’s the first horse I’ve ever owned, and I’ve had her for 5 years, Gem and I have done everything from Dressage to ranch horse shows together but this is our first year showing Pinto. We are loving the fun atmosphere and meeting all the new people at Iowa Pinto. I can’t wait to be back for next season!

Someday I’d like to try western riding!

My favorite class is showmanship! Discipline rail is a close second.
